Who We Are
The Mariners of PGI is a club whose common interests are cruising, boating education, and social activities. As an active cruising club, each year members have the opportunity to participate in over many cruises including overnight trips to southwest Florida coastal marinas, anchor-outs at various destinations, day cruises to waterfront restaurants on Charlotte Harbor, the ICW and the Peace River. For the more adventurous, there are multi-day trips to anchorages/marinas in Ft. Myers and Tampa areas, plus more long-range cruises to the Florida Keys, the Bahamas and beyond.
Our vessels are a mix of power and sailboats of all sizes. There’s so much more to membership in a cruising club than just cruising our beautiful Southwest Florida waters. It’s the folks you meet and the friendships that are formed, creating camaraderie and support for all boaters, especially those unfamiliar with local waters. Cruises are posted for sign up on the “Cruises” menu of the website and are open to all members. The Bylaws of the club require members to participate in a minimum of two scheduled Mariners of PGI cruises within each calendar year.
The Mariners of PGI Social Committee normally plans interesting activities and events each month, starting in January with the Change of Watch and ending with our annual Holiday Party in December. During the rest of the year various events are held such as a Welcome Back Picnic in October, trips to Hockey and Baseball games, the Rodeo, Ladies luncheons, and men’s weekly breakfasts. The staple of our socialization is to meet weekly at Four Points Sheraton, every Wednesday at 5:30 for Happy Hour, guests are welcome to attend. It is a great way to meet Mariners and learn more about the club. Monthly meetings, are held at the PGI Civic Association, 2001 Shreve St., Punta Gorda, on the 4th Monday of the month. Members are required to attend 3 meetings per year.
Educational topics of interest are covered including boat maintenance, cruising safety, local navigation, emergency medical training, and informational talks on voyages made by members. In addition, there have been education sessions outside including hands-on demonstrations with fire extinguishers, flares and electrical systems. We hope there are many reasons why you might want get on board and become a member of the Mariners of PGI. If you’re interested, click here or the “Membership” menu button at the top of any page.
